Final Blog

I really did enjoy this class despite some of the confusing readings. Most of the readings were interesting and made me think and taught me how to write differently. i have a new prospective of creative writing and this has turned out to be one of my favorite classes at Eastern Michigan University.
I am probably going to start writing a journal and put my thoughts in it. this class made me realize that writing down things that are going through my head will help me to become less stressed and develop my writing skills. i think that i have found a new passion for poetry and fiction. and i am definitely going to be writing some stories about my life. i might even write a book lol.
i really enjoyed the eclipse story it was one of my favorite stories because of the details of the clown painting. i also really enjoyed the i guess "mocking" of the Shakespeare sonnet when he talked of loving the girl in spite of her ugliness.
But overall i enjoyed the class and am happy that i chose to take it with such a wonderful teacher.

Dictee

Honestly I didn’t understand much of the book and because I didn’t understand it I didn’t like it. Reading the book was very frustrating and difficult. So my “favorite” passages are the ones that I actually understood. It wasn’t till about page 7 (I think) when I actually started to understand something that she was saying.
O Muse, tell me the story
Of all these things, O goddess, daughter of Zeus
Beginning wherever you wish, tell even us.
To me this passage meant that she was getting ready to tell a story of I’m guessing of anything she can think of but mainly particular stories about her life. And that’s what I think made the story confusing. It seems as if she just wrote what she was thinking and feeling at the time “beginning wherever you wish”. so it seemed to not have a specific order or sensible structure.
The part where I really started to understand the book was around page 48 when she started to tell the story about her mother. But the way she speaks is still weird she writes as though she is telling her mother about her mother, but nonetheless I still understood this part rather well. So it was my favorite part. She just went on to talk about how her mother was a Japanese teacher. But just when I was beginning to really understand the book it went crazy on me again. She started to talk about how I’m guessing her mother was drawing her blood, for what I don’t know but that part really confused me. The details were rather descriptive though I could actually imagine her drawing her blood but to be honest at first I speculated whether she was taking drugs, but I think that was just me trying to make the book into something more interesting.
Another part that was confusing/ irritating was the French part. I could not understand it and didn’t even try to me it would be just as irrelevant as the rest of the book. Another part that I wondered about was the constant use of periods. I mean she used a period after every like 2 words it wasn’t confusing but it was just strange. It was probably correct punctuation but like I said just strange
But overall I did not like the book mostly because it was hard to understand for me. Maybe in class when we talk about it I will gain a greater appreciation for it.oh i did like the part in the beginning when she wrote the word period where it was a period and quotation marks and commas. It was interesting

Plot.... The Dream Play

In the book Plot I really liked the section called Dream Play on page 22.
It is mainly about Liv having a horrible dream about having what seems to be a miscarriage.
I really like the smplistic details that she gives and its kind of like she's speaking in code or she's dazed at the the thought and has no emotion over losing her baby. In the dream Erland runs to her and asks her where the baby is and she simly says "I haven't got it" and he goes on to say whats in tyour stomach then and she says "the bloods run out... out out and its takin the thing with it". that part made it seems as if she doesn't really care that she had a miscarriage and that she is going on with her life, but Erland if confused and really scared that she lost the baby.

Poem Analysis

The poem Dim Lady is a play off or a spoof of Shakespeare's sonnet 130. The poem says exactly what the sonnet says, but in a more modern way. The poem speaks of love but its kind of in a rap style with modern references. While the sonnet speaks in a more romantic tone.
The sonnet is speaking about how the woman he loves is not the the prettiest or best looking or basically in any way special, but he still loves her and wants to be with her. He states how her breath stinks and her hair isn't soft, but in spite of all that he still loves her.
The poem is a spoof of a sonnet but it has its own elements. Throughout the poem there are some lines that rhyme "I don't know any Marilyn Monroes. My ball and chain is plain from head to toe." I think that this makes the poem flow more and easy to read and understand. The references about her body parts in the poem are specific and understandable she says "if her mop were Slinky's dishwater Slinky's would grow on her noggin." This statement basically says how her hair is of wires. In the poem the way her features are described is a good use of imagery. Like "the garlic breeze" of her breath or hair of "dish water Slinky's".
